About Data Science
Build models that predict what happens next
Companies use data science to forecast demand, spot fraud and recommend products. Learn the Python, statistics and machine learning behind it, step by step.
Predicted vs actual
Feature importance
What is data science?
It combines programming, statistics and business knowledge to learn from data and make predictions. Most projects fall into four kinds of problems.
Teach computers to learn from examples
Instead of writing every rule by hand, a data scientist shows a model thousands of past cases and lets it find the pattern. The model then predicts new cases, such as which customer may leave or which payment looks like fraud.
Classification
Is this email spam? Will this customer churn? Pick the right label.
Regression
How much will it sell? What price fits? Predict a number.
Clustering
Which customers behave alike? Find hidden groups in data.
Forecasting
What will demand be next month? Predict values over time.
The six steps of every project
You will repeat this cycle on real data sets until it feels natural.
Define
Turn a business problem into a question a model can answer.
Collect and clean
Gather data and fix missing values, errors and duplicates.
Explore
Study patterns and create features that help the model learn.
Train
Fit models with Python and scikit-learn and compare them.
Evaluate
Test on new data and check for overfitting and bias.
Deploy
Put the model to work, then monitor it as data changes.
Why learn data science
Used in every industry
Banks, hospitals, shops, factories and tech companies all use predictions, so your skills travel with you.
Strong foundation
Math, code and business thinking together make you adaptable.
Many paths
Grow into ML engineering, AI, research or leadership.
Real impact
Your models guide pricing, risk, marketing and operations.
Tools employers ask for
Python, SQL, pandas and scikit-learn appear in most data science job descriptions.
Future ready
Data science sits underneath today's AI tools, so the basics stay valuable.
A simple model that people understand and trust is often better than a complex one nobody can explain. Employers reward clear thinking over fancy algorithms.
Roles you can aim for
Job titles vary by company, but these are the common starting points and next steps.

Technical skills
- Python and pandas: clean, reshape and explore data.
- SQL: pull the right data from databases.
- Statistics: probability, testing and confidence in results.
- Machine learning: train, tune and compare models.
Thinking and communication
- Problem framing: choose the right question first.
- Evaluation: spot overfitting and misleading scores.
- Storytelling: explain results to non-technical people.
- Responsible use: handle data fairly and carefully.
Who it is for
Graduates
Students from science, engineering and commerce starting a data career.
Data analysts
Analysts ready to move from reporting to prediction.
Developers
Software engineers adding machine learning to their toolkit.
Career switchers
Professionals from any field who like numbers and problem solving.
Where data scientists work
Results depend on practice and projects. A portfolio of real, well-explained projects matters more than a certificate alone.
Questions people ask
Do I need coding experience?
No. Python is taught from the basics, and you build up to machine learning with plenty of practice.
Do I need strong math?
School-level algebra is enough to start. The course teaches the statistics you actually use at work.
How is this different from data analytics?
Analytics explains what happened and why. Data science also builds models that predict what will happen. Many people start in analytics and move to data science.
Do I have to learn deep learning?
Not at first. Classic machine learning solves most business problems. Deep learning is a later step for text, images and speech.
